Student Activities

Basketball – Open to all Grade 5 Students

Students will be learning about basic basketball skills, fairplay, and practicing good sportsmanship.  Students play basketball games and the season culminates with the annual lunch-time Teachers vs. Students Basketball Game.

Chess Club –  Open to all Gr. 3 – 5 Students

Students are invited to come play chess or learn how to play chess.

Family Reading – Join your child’s class for some morning reading 9:00-9:30am throughout the school year.  Dates TBD.


Gardening Club – The Gardening Club will be meeting in the fall and in the spring. Stay tuned for details!

Open to all Grade 3, 4, & 5 students. Meetings TBA.


High Notes – The Richard McBride High Notes choir performs at various school and community events throughout New Westminster and the lower mainland. Past events include the Kiwanis and St. Thomas More Choral Festivals, Music Monday at Robson Square, Remembrance Day at New Westminster City Hall, and Gardenworks at Mandeville in Burnaby. The choir is open to students in Grades 3, 4, & 5, and in 2017/2018 we were thrilled to have 87 children participating! The choir first meets in October, takes a short break after Christmas, and then continues through till the end of June. The choir is under the direction of Ms. Lange and Mrs. Shamley.

Open to Grade 3, 4, & 5 students. Rehearsals take place from 8:00am-8:50am on Wednesday mornings in the Music Room.


Open Library – Students in all grades are invited to come to the library to check out books or to quietly read or draw. The library is open at 8:30am on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. Students must enter enter through the front door and arrive by 8:40 am.


Purls of Wisdom Textiles Club – Grade 3, 4, & 5 students are invited to participate.

Are you interested in being creative with yarn or fabric?  Each term will highlight a different textiles activity. During first term, we are working on a weaving project.

Red Fox ACTIVE PLAY: SCHOOLS OUT – An afterschool program for Grade 2-5 students.  More information to follow.


Running Club – Students will focus on long distance running and pacing. Running Club begins with two weeks of conditioning at top campus and then proceeds to the road course around the neighbourhood (slightly longer than the Terry Fox run.)

Open to all Grade 3, 4, & 5 students. More information to follow


Track & Field – Students work on the mechanics of running, starting and finishing a race, short distance sprints and longer distance runs. The season culminates with the annual McBride Mini Meet at Sapperton Park (weather permitting.)

Open to all Grade 3, 4, & 5 students. Practices typically on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 8:00-8:40 am, in May and June.
